Website Feedback

markrosewater:

I have been getting a lot of feedback on the new website and I want to collect it in one place.

I am looking for polite, constructive feedback explaining what isn’t working or is missing. I am not looking for generic complaining. Tell me things that need to be fixed so that we can fix them.

Thanks.

Finally! I’ve got it!

Based on the metainformation in the page, the MTG site is using Drupal 7 + The words “Daily MTG” appear directly before the column name. Based on this, I was able to construct a search URL that filters by article name, descending by date:

http://magic.wizards.com/en/search/site/%22daily%20mtg%20uncharted%20realms%22?solrsort=ds_created%20desc&f[0]=ss_language%3Aen

Until they fix the articles page, you can use this link to filter on uncharted realms. It should work for other columns as well, by editing the uncharted%20realms to the other column names.

Here’s “Level One”, for example: http://magic.wizards.com/en/search/site/%22daily%20mtg%20level%20one%22?solrsort=ds_created%20desc&f[0]=ss_language%3Aen

Enjoy!

I’ve figured out a workaround for reading a specific column:

http://magic.wizards.com/en/section/uncharted-realms

That will display all the articles for Uncharted Realms, but in Japanese (despite the URL having /en in it). However, If you use that URL, and have your browser translate it, AND open the articles you want to read in a new tab, they show up in English.

It’s a pretty shoddy method of getting at a column, but it works.

*Update* Actually, it looks like that workaround also only sort of works. Seems like it displays all of the articles in that column, except for the last one. So, Complete workaround:

1. On the main site, keep clicking articles until one of them is the column you want. That’s the last one.

2. After reading that, open the above url, and translate it from Japanese to English in your browser.

3. Open the articles from that list in new tabs/windows.

1. On my Transformer Prime (Andriod tablet), the = menu doesn’t function properly. If I click it, and then click articles, about 75% of the time, nothing happens, and the menu becomes unresponsive. Seems to work in iOS devices, but not Andriod.

2. Decklists are hard to use in mobile mode. Since you use a “hover” effect, and there’s no such thing as “hover” in mobile, you have to click-hold, and then do some other trickery in order to see the cards. It’s possible, but it’s very, very slow and tedious. It would be better if a click, not a hover, displayed the card, and perhaps a click on the shown card brought you to gatherer, since that would allow mobile users to read decklists.

3. The old RSS feed stopped updating, and I don’t know how to subscribe to articles using the new site, or what the new URL for the feed is. Makes it impossible for me to read articles during the day, and I have to wait until I’m home, on a computer.

4. It’s not possible to filter articles or see their categories in the relevant places you’d need them anymore. This is especially important for Uncharted Realms. If you want to see an ordered list of the most recent Uncharted Realms articles in order to follow along, for example, you can’t.

Disclaimer: I like the site on a desktop. But given that the purpose was to make it mobile, and it’s actually quite a bit harder to use now in my mobile devices (no RSS, decklists don’t work, = menu only sometimes works, etc.), I think it needs a lot of work on that front.
